SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Downed trees across Western Massachusetts have made travel difficult on both major and minor roadways.
22News is working for you by tracking where some of the most severe damage is in our area.
Road conditions are improving in Holyoke, where Route 5 (Northampton Street) is now open, hours after a tree fell in the middle of the road between Exit 17A and the Delaney House. Southampton Road, which was also blocked by a tree, has also been cleared.
Route 5 is blocked in West Springfield due to a downed power line near the intersection of Riverdale Street and East Elm Street. East Elm Street itself is impassible.
Route 57 in Agawam going into Southwick is closed due to downed trees and wires. Route 187 in Agawam is blocked near Pine Street, and again near Rising Corner.
State Police have reported to 22News that sections of Route 9 are closed in Amherst and Ware. Roads are closed at Route 2 and State Road in Erving. Troopers also report that downed power lines are blocking streets in the Belchertown area.
Springfield residents are struggling with this storm, too. A tree was split down the middle by the weight of the snow on Stafford Street. That tree fell on power lines and caused the neighborhood to be without power.
There was a similar situation on Franklin Street in Springfield. Tree limbs brought down power lines, and some of those tree limbs even fell on cars. Roads have still not been plowed, making for a very slippery mess there on Franklin Street.
Parker Street is blocked-off from Wilbraham Road to South Branch Parkway. It was in that area where a man was electrocuted early Saturday evening.
Downed trees are reportedly blocking the road on Sargeant and Canal Streets in Holyoke.
There is some good news; State Police report that all the restrictions they had imposed on the Mass Pike Saturday night have been lifted, and that there are no significant incidents on the Pike.
When you are heading out on the roads, remeber that though the snow has stopped, trees and power lines are not done falling, so use extreme caution when driving.
