SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Families who have lived the nightmare of burying a child came together Sunday night to remember their sons and daughters.
Parents and family members at the 11th annual vigil bring a candle to light in memory of their child, and are welcome to say a few words about their loved one.
One couple who lost their son in a car accident told 22News the event gives survivors an understanding shoulder to lean on.
Bob and Nance Macdonald says, "If its somebody that's new my heart goes out to them because I know the long tough road they're going to be on. If its somebody whose been down the road farther than me I look for a little bit of guidance on how I can get to where they've been because it changes your life forever."
The vigil is held every year on the second Sunday in December.
