SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) - A massive fire has destroyed empty barns near Point Grove Road in Southwick .
Southwick Deputy Fire Chief Mike Demko told 22News, they received a call about the fire at around 11:50 p.m. Saturday night.
These barns are on a state-owned property near the Massachusetts and Connecticut border, and Deputy Chief Demko said, when the state environmental police arrived, they said they had been planning on asking local fire departments to burn down this property.
According to Demko, the environmental police wanted local firefighters to use the area for training in the near future.
As of 2 a.m., the fire was contained, but firefighters had a difficult time putting out the fire because they had to transport water to the area.
Nearby towns' departments responded as well.
At least two barns have burnt down to the ground.
No one was hurt. Detectives are investigating the cause of the fire.
