ESSINGTON, Pa. (WWLP) - Police in Pennsylvania are investigating the death of a man from East Longmeadow, who they believe drowned in the Delaware River.
East Longmeadow Police Sergeant Dennis Sheehan told 22News the body of 48-year old Frank Basile was found on Sunday near the river.
Sheehan says that Basile had been reported missing a couple days before, after members of his family had not heard from him. He had been in the Philadelphia area on business.
The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper reports that Basile had been scheduled to take a flight out of Philadelphia International Airport on Friday, but when the flight was cancelled, he was given a voucher to stay at a nearby hotel.
Basile's body was found at a riverside park in Essington, Tinicum Township; a suburban community not far from the airport.
Stephen Edmiston, Chief of the Tinicum Township Police Department, told 22News that the death was first reported as "suspicious," but now they do not suspect foul play, and Basile's death is believed to have been an accidental drowning.
They are awaiting a final toxicology report, which Edmiston says may not come until sometime after the New Year's holiday.
