SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - An accused child rapist from Agawam, who federal authorities said taunted them with messages like "catch me if you can," has been caught by U.S. Marshals in Utah.
According to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service, John T. Blomquist, 34, was arrested outside a bar in Moab, Utah on Wednesday evening.
Blomquist was wanted for child rape, and had two felony counts and a warrant issued by the Agawam Police Department.
Authorities from Massachusetts, including officers from the Agawam Police Department the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension unit, joined U.S. Marshals and other officials across the country that had been looking for Blomquist since August of last year.
While he was on the run, U.S. Marshals said that Blomquist was "actively taunting" law enforcement, by sending them postcards with the message "catch me if you can." Police were able to catch him after they determined he was living in the Moab area under the alias " Bradley Scott Allen."
He is currently in state custody in Utah, but is expected to be returned to the Springfield area soon. In Utah, Blomquist faces additional charges, and Marshals say he was found to have had a handgun.
Moab is a remote town in the southeastern Utah desert, near Arches National Park.
