SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A gas leak has been capped in Springfield's South End.
According to Dennis Leger, the aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, the leak was discovered around 11:30 a.m. in front of 21 Norwood Street.
A Mobil station and homes from Main Street to East Columbus were evacuated.
Leger said a Springfield Water and Sewer worker struck the gas line with a backhoe.
The gas leak was capped and it took about an hour before gas levels dropped down to normal.
