SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - East Springfield residents met with an anti-casino group Monday night to talk about possible negative effects of having a casino in their backyard.
Members of Citizens Against Casino Gaming said problems with robberies, car thefts and aggravated assaults will increase if a casino comes to Springfield.
East Springfield Neighborhood Council members told 22News it's important to know both positive and negative effects before they cast their votes.
According to Marie Koski of Springfield, "People who are living from paycheck to paycheck are going to go to the casinos, thinking they'll get rich quick. They'll spend the rent hoping that they'll get 3 months rent back in return, and that's just not realistic."
Back in January the Springfield City Council voted to let all Springfield voters vote on the casino referendum, rather than limiting the election to a certain ward.
