SPRINGFIELD, Mass, (WWLP) - Local non-profit organization is advocating for more services for homeless people in the Springfield area.
Members of the group Arise for Social Justice met at the Christ Church Cathedral on Chesnut Street in Springfield Thursday afternoon.
Arise for Social Justice member, Frank Cincotta, told 22News some of the basic housing needs of the homeless community are not being met.
Cincotta says the group wants to work with the city and churches to help rehabilitate old properties into new shelters.
There are a lot of vacant buildings in Springfield owned by the City and by churches so we're trying to reach out to them to see if there is a way they could house some homeless,” said Cincotta.
Cincotta said Arise is also working to create more support groups and sources for meals for homeless people.
