SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Sisters of Providence Health System leaders and members of Springfield's preservation community will tour a 145 year old building slated for demolition on the property of Mercy Medical Center.
The Historical Commission wants to save the Allis Mansion on Carew Street.
The building is unused and has fallen into disrepair.
A medical office building is under construction nearby, and Mercy already has a permit to demolish the building, but they're willing to listen to suggestions in good faith.
"We do have sometime to work with this Allis Mansion issue. Again, it's a pretty hazardous building," CEO Daniel Mowen told 22News.
"And when you're talking about significant sizable houses in Springfield, this is probably the third oldest. Only two are older," Bob McCarroll said.
Members of the Springfield Preservation trust and Sisters of Providence will tour the Allis Mansion Wednesday morning starting at 11:00 am.
