WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - They may have sore feet tomorrow but hundreds of men and women gladly ran their hearts out Sunday for the Westfield Boys and Girls Club.
This was the 20th annual half marathon race through the streets of Westfield on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club. Those who made it to the finish line after that grueling 13 miles, found a voice of appreciation at the finish line.
"All the funds raised, of which $20,000 was raised today, go to the day to day operation of the club," said Bill Parks, Executive Director for the Boys and Girls Club.
Mike Sheldon, the race director, told 22News, "When we started out with this, about 100 runners way back when. The race has grown in the 20 years to what do we have now, about 700 to 800 runners?"
Coming in behind the top finishers was no disgrace. They told 22News, just helping the Boys and Girls Club was an honor in itself.
