WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Hard Rock International has unveiled their plans to control traffic if they are chosen to build a casino at the Big E.
There are a couple major changes included in the proposal that people who live in the area should be aware of: Hard Rock wants to widen Memorial Avenue from its current four lanes to five lanes from the Memorial Bridge Rotary to Circuit Avenue.
Hard Rock also wants to revamp and beautify the rotary, by adding things like bicycle lanes and turning lanes.
Those changes are just a part of the $35 million traffic proposal. The other major piece of this is behind the Big E, where they also want to build another entrance onto the grounds, which would connect Route 5 to their proposed secondary access road.
West Springfield residents will be meeting again on April 24 to talk about the proposal.
The Hard Rock proposal for West Springfield is just one of four casino proposals being considered in western Massachusetts. Mohegan Sun wants to build a casino on land off the Massachusetts Turnpike in Palmer, while MGM and Penn National gaming are backing competing casino sites in Springfield. Under state law, there can be only one casino built in western Massachusetts.
