WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - With a big check on-hand, representatives from Hard Rock International presented West Springfield Mayor Greg Neffinger with a $400,000 payment to the town.
The non-refundable payment was required under the town's host community agreement with the casino company, which was signed by Neffinger last week . The agreement stipulated that the payment would have to be made within five days of signing.
Neffinger said that he would like to see the money go toward purchasing the Elks property on Morgan Road, but it will go into the town's general fund account first.
Hard Rock's Tim Maland said during the check presentation that he looks forward to this being one of several payments.
It is one of three major casino proposals currently in western Massachusetts, along with MGM's proposed Springfield casino and Mohegan Sun's proposed casino in Palmer.
