SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The high heat this 4th of July has some people spending the holiday indoors, but others spent their morning running despite the rising temperatures.
The 36th annual Greater Springfield Harriers Fourth of July 5K Run had people lacing up their shoes and running through the streets of Springfield Thursday morning.
Alyce and Addie Stiles of Holyoke, and Jen Busone of Easthampton were among the many runners in the race, which started and ended at the Basketball Hall of Fame. They told 22News that they were proud to have crossed the finish line.
"It was rough. It was brutal, it was hard," Busone said.
"It was brutal, but we finished. We did it!," Addie Stiles said.
After finishing the race, many runners cooled down with watermelon and, of course, a long drink of cool water.
