HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The commute is about to get a lot easier for many people who live, work, and shop in Holyoke, as the ramp to I-91 South near the Holyoke Mall opened again Friday morning.
MassDOT crews were outside just after 7:00 A.M., taking down the signs and removing the cones. The detour that has been in place these past 70 days have caused a lot of headaches.
Residents and local business owners told 22News that they were not made aware the ramp was going to even close, but they say they're just happy it's back open now.
"It's great; very easy on and off access, especially when you need to travel. You don't have to go all the way down to Riverdale Road to get onto 91, so it's great; really convenient," Jennifer Stone of Westfield said.
Neil Tierney, the owner of the Shell Station off I-91 used his electronic signboard to show his displeasure with how long it was taking for the ramp to re-open.
"It's open, I hope my business comes back. I just wish other people were as concerned as I was during this period," Tierney said. But again, there was no reason to close that ramp. They did nothing on that ramp for 70 days."
He said his business was down 40-percent during the two-month detour.
