HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Holyoke police say that the victim of a shooting in the city's Churchill neighborhood Wednesday night, may have been shot while he was running away from his attackers.
Police Lt. Jim Albert told 22News that the victim, whose name isn't being released, is a 25 year-old man from Holyoke.
The victim was found around 9:00 Wednesday night behind 289 Walnut Street. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. The victim had been listed in critical condition, but according to Albert, he is now in serious but stable condition. He is expected to survive.
Albert said police believe there were multiple assailants, and that the victim was on the move when he was shot. He said they found evidence of different weapons at the location.
No arrests have been made at this time. Albert said that there were several witnesses and nearby residents around at the time of the shooting, but none of them were able to provide any details to police.
Several blocks in the area of the shooting had been closed to traffic overnight while detectives were running their investigation.
