SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - In August, an alleged drunk driver slammed into the Santa family's home on Berkshire Avenue in Springfield leaving, a gaping hole.
For that crash, 23-year-old Christopher Albert was charged with driving under the influence and for attempt to leave the scene.
Now weeks later, the damaged home is being targeted by thieves.
Henry Santa told 22News that someone stole a generator from the house. Santa says that the home he shares with his mother is an easy target because only a piece of plywood covers the front of the building.
Currently, he lives in a temporary housing trailer next to the home. His mother, however, refuses to leave the damaged home, fearing someone will steal her belongings.
"I'm just afraid something is going to happen because of our situation, and i don't know why it's taking so long to fix the house," Henry Santa said.
The Santas are waiting for the insurance company to cover the damage before repairs can be made.
