HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Several teachers received Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Awards Wednesday night.
It's an opportunity for the seven communities involved in Wednesday night's awards to recognize the work educators do for students.
Joette St. George of Brightwood Elementary, in Springfield, told 22News, "It's wonderful recognition for all the hard work that we put in; I don't know if all people know this but teachers work really hard and you know they say we have the summers off and all of that, we really do work nights, weekends."
"The thing that moves me about teaching is the ability to impact the future students and the children that we work with really are the future," said Robert O'Connell of Longmeadow.
There are still many more teachers that will be honored from communities west of the Connecticut River, that ceremony will happen May 9th.
The teaching award is supported by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, and to find more information on the award and the foundation, click here .
