CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Millions of people are buying tickets for Friday night's drawing of the MEGA Millions .
The multi-state lotto game has reached a record $500 million.
So, is it better to buy a quick pick ticket or choose your own numbers?
Most players who bought tickets at the Pride in Chicopee Thursday morning chose quick pick tickets.
"I usually do quick picks, but I have some that are related to family birthdays and things like that that I do separately, " said Betty Vazquez who bought 10-dollars worth of quick picks.
Gilbert Pearlman put a little more thought into it. "I feel that the human mind puts patterns and stuff into numbers that the computer doesn't and if the computer picks the number as a quick pick, I should too, " said Pearlman.
Western New England University , Associate Professor of Mathematics, David Mazur, told 22News that it makes no difference how you choose the numbers.
"Your numbers that you pick have the same chances of coming up as the numbers picked by the computer, so you should be equally happy playing your numbers versus taking the quick pick, " said Mazur.
However, your chances are pretty slim overall with 1 in 175 million choosing the winning ticket.
Mazur says you have a better chance of flipping a penny and landing on heads 27 times in a row than winning the MEGA Millions!
