SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - While the snow ended Saturday morning, 4 days later we're still talking about cleanup.
In Springfield it's still a little early to add up the total cost of this storm. However, it is clear that the cleanup from this storm, which includes city plowing crews and private contractors, has been the most expensive storm we've had all winter.
Springfield has a budget of 1 point five million dollars set aside for snow removal each year. About half of that budget had already been used before the storm.
According to John Rooney, the Deputy Director of the Springfield DPW , "My expectation is that this will probably exceed our budget to some degree. Probably not greatly at this point, but the numbers aren't in yet."
Rooney seems fairly certain this will be a storm that costs more than five hundred thousand dollars, but if they end up going over budget they don't have to stop plowing because they're allowed to operate in a deficit.
Rooney expects to have a final count on how much this storm cost sometime early next week.
