SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A smelly problem could soon be coming to a garbage can near you.
We're talking about skunks. Scavengers, that around this time of the year, like to feast near your bird feeder or trash.
According to masswildlife.gov skunks will usually leave you alone unless they feel cornered.
That's when they'll spray. Which is why it's important to keep a close eye on your pets.
22News talked to Candy Lash of the Dakin Humane Society in Springfield about a special formula that can take away that unbearable odor. "There's a secret recipe, that I can attest, works well. A quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, a quarter of a cup of baking soda, a tablespoon of mild dishwashing detergent, and a gallon of water. Mix them together,"
Some other tips for keeping skunks away include blocking the spaces under your porch or shed with wire mesh and making sure you feed your pets indoors.
