Lt. Matthew Moriarty said the victim is 18 year-old Jonathan Ramos, of Holyoke. Police say he fell from a place called, "High Rock", and plunged about 45 to 50 feet into the Connecticut River. If you're familiar with Holyoke, this cliff is located in the Jones Point section of the city.
The incident took place just before 8:00 Monday night, and Ramos' body was recovered at 9:20 P.M., by dive teams. Lt. Moriarty told 22News that the river's condition was rough, due to the recent storm that passed through the area Monday night.
Ramos was with a group of friends at the time of his fall. They described to police how they witnessed their friend struggle in the water, before disappearing.
At this time it's still unclear whether Ramos was swimming before he fell. But police say "High Rock" is NOT a public swimming area.
