WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Doctors are advising us to get our flu shots as soon as possible.
Dr. Marie Vitale of Doctor's Express in West Springfield told 22News the flu season traditionally begins in October. A person needs time to develop protective antibodies before the illness becomes widespread.
“We never know exactly when the Influenza season will begin. It can start as early as September, October, sometimes it doesn't hit until December, January. The sooner you get vaccine, the more protection you're going to have,” she said.
Dr. Vitale noted that during last year's flu season, many flu sufferers over the age of 65 had to be hospitalized.
