SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Nearly two years after the June first tornado, residents of one public housing complex say they were left out of rebuilding efforts.
The Hill Homes Complex on Hickory Street was badly damaged. 26 people were forced out of their homes and haven't returned.
The 13 that remain say they have been forgotten.
Ethel Wright, a Hill Homes resident, told 22News, "Any block grant money that has come in, Hill Homes has always been overlooked and it continues to be a problem."
"They have been left behind and someone dropped the ball," said Bud Williams, Springfield City Council.
According to Representative Ben Swan, "This is the time here in Springfield and other urban communities where we need affordable housing and here we are about to take housing away from residents who are living here some time."
Councilor Williams and Representative Swan told 22News Springfield College is interested in the property.
Both hope to convince the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to fix the property instead of selling it.
