HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - A Kick-a-thon against crime was held at the Holyoke boys and girls club on Saturday.
The money that Martial Arts school owner Ricardo Rodriguez raised today will help the schools fight crime in their neighborhood.
The kick-a-thon was held in memory of murder victim Joseph Hernandez, Ricardo's cousin.
"It was a senseless crime. He wasn't a drug dealer or a gang member. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time and we're doing this in his honor. He was only 23 years old," said Rodriguez.
Ricardo Rodrguez said, "He can only hope that the money raised to fight crime in Holyoke, would prevent future senseless crimes, the kind of which took his cousin's life.
