LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A youth cheerleading team from Longmeadow has placed fourth in a national competition that brought together hundreds of teams.
In their first trip to the Cheersport National Cheerleading and Dance Championship, which was held in Atlanta, the Longmeadow Knights were the only team in their division to achieve zero deductions.
"The girls did an awesome job! I didn't think they could improve on their first day's performance, but they did, and received a 10 point increase in their score. I couldn't have hoped they'd do any better," Head Coach Jessica Prokop said.
More than 900 teams competed in the two-day competition. The Knights, a parks and recreation cheerleading team made up of girls in 5th through 7th grade, will participate in three other championship competitions in April.
