LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Longmeadow police are looking for the driver of a van who reportedly tried to get a 16 year-old girl to get inside his vehicle on Wednesday night, and are investigating whether he is connected to two other incidents in town.
Police Capt. John Stankiewicz told 22News that around 9:00 P.M., the teen was walking on Frank Smith Road, when a man driving a white or cream-colored van (possibly a Dodge Sprinter or Ford Transit Connect) approached her, asking her where she was going and if she wanted a ride. When she declined, he continued the conversation and told her to " hop in." Scared by what happened, she ran to a friend's house and the police were contacted.
Police are looking into whether this was connected to two other incidents in town on Wednesday.
Around 4:00, Stankiewicz says police received a report of a " disheveled and creepy" looking driver of a white van at the Big Y parking lot. The van had Texas license plates.
After the initial two incidents were posted on the department's Facebook page , Stankiewicz says that a member of the community contacted them, saying that around 7:30, a van matching that description was seen near the Glenbrook Middle School. According to Stankiewicz, the driver was watching children in a nearby field playing lacrosse.
