SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - With less than two weeks until Christmas, most of you are already in the holiday spirit-- from shopping for gifts and decorating, to making the rounds of holiday parties. But all that seasonal celebrating doesn't always mean good things for your waistline.
Your phone can do just about anything these days, including help you lose weight. A new study found mobile apps that show how much you eat and how many calories you burn, can help you make better decisions throughout the day.
Most of us don't wander too far from our smartphones. They're in our hands and in our pockets from just about the moment we wake up. But did you know the device you use to talk, text and tweet can also help you lose weight?
People say the apps work because they're convenient. It's a digital food journal in the palm of your hand; keeping track of foods you eat throughout the day, how many calories you burn through exercise, and even how much water you drank.
"I used it to keep myself accountable for what I was putting into my body and it actually worked, I dropped a few pounds doing it. The one I was using actually had a thing where you could scan the barcode of whatever you were eating so it made it easy for you," said Thom Sliney of Springfield.
But the app only works if you stick with it, and some people say they simply don't have time for the commitment.
"I have actually got one on my phone but I have not used it. I don't know, I find it tedious. I'm too busy to use the apps I have on my phone," said Liz Pitts of Hatfield.
Your mobile account is geared toward your individual success. Your daily calorie recommendation is based on your weight, and once you start dropping the pounds your goals will reset as well.
