AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - The Joint Committee on Election Laws will take a look at several bills Wednesday, mostly on the subject of no-excuse absentee voting and early voting .
In many other states, residents have the opportunity to vote weeks in advance of the election, but there is currently no early voting in Massachusetts. Proponents say early voting would help alleviate long lines on Election Day, and also give residents with hectic work and child care schedules more flexibility to vote.
22News spoke with Springfield-area residents on Wednesday who all said they would be interested in taking advantage of an early voting system. Some recalled elections where they were scrambling to get to the polls in rush hour traffic, and also poll lines that moved slowly because of questions from first time voters and the elderly.
We'll take a closer look at the early voting process on 22News starting at 5.
