WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The deadline for potential casino developers to apply for a Massachusetts gaming license is one week from Tuesday.
The 22News I-Team discovered the "Big E" will make a major casino announcement prior to the state's deadline. The deal isn't quite finalized, but according to multiple sources, barring a setback, the announcement will happen.
22News first reported that Hard Rock International was interested in the "Big E" grounds as a casino site in December.
The Eastern States Exposition told the 22News I-Team Monday they have nothing new to report.
West Springfield mayor Greg Neffinger talked to 22News late last week.
"They haven't kept us up to date on what they're doing, because I think they want to make a major announcement. They have until the 15th to get their money in, so we're still waiting", says Neffinger.
Mayor Neffinger told 22News he supports a city wide vote on a casino.
Hard Rock International didn't have any comment Monday.
Mark Rivers told 22News Real Estate developer Richard Bronson didn't know of an announcement.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission told 22News Hard Rock has not paid an application fee.
