SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The official start of summer is on Friday and many western Massachusetts residents have vacation plans.
Whether it's playing a sport… "Well I'm planning to play baseball, as most of the season goes on. I'm trying to look for a job," said Drew Moran of Wethersfield, Conn.
Or enjoying a game… "We're going to watch the game and we're gonna play catch," said Giovanni Manzi of Springfield.
The sights and sound of summer are here and many in western Massachusetts are planning to enjoy it.
A recent online survey by a travel search site found five in 10 people are planning trips to North American destinations.
"Actually I'm planning to spend a lot of time with my kids James and Joshua and my husband Jamie. And we are planning on going to the beach, going to Canada going to Boston," said Lucila Pardave of Springfield.
The survey was sent to more than 100,000 travelers. Two out of 10 say they are setting aside more money for travel plans than they did last year.
Four out of 10 plan to use the money to purchase bundled vacation packages. Meanwhile others say they'd rather keep it simple.
"Most often we go to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. My husband and son hike every year. We keep it pretty simple with camping so no it really hasn't impacted us. We've been fortunate that way," said Barbara Casey of Natick.
The survey also found that fewer people are planning on taking a vacation aboard a cruise ship. Three in 10 say the recent negative news on the cruise industry influenced their decision.
