SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno served notice on Sunday that he won't tolerate the recent upsurge in violent crime such as the recent shootings this weekend.
The Mayor told 22News, he's asking for the return of State Police units in some of the city's most troubled neighborhoods.
He's already spoken with Police commissioner William Fitchet and the head of the Massachusetts state police.
"The lower forest park area, to work with our badge unit, mason square initiative to work with our mason square area, and our downtown clubs especially after hours, to send a message that degenerates not going to be allowed to wreak havoc on the city of Springfield," Mayor Sarno said.
Mayor Sarno also told 22News he's instructed the license commission to go after certain clubs which in the mayor's words, want to attract a negative element.
