SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Well fortunately we don't have to worry about flooding right now but you should try and stay away from area rivers.
Water has been crashing over the Holyoke Dam and you can see that river levels are up, and the current is very strong.
Melting snow and the heavy rain earlier this week have caused the rivers to rise, but they are all staying within their banks.
The fast moving current along with chunks of ice and debris in the water make it dangerous to put a boat in right now.
And with water temperatures only in the 30's, if you fall in, hypothermia can set in very quickly.
Over the next few weeks more snow melt from up north will likely continue to keep water levels up but as long as we don't see much in the way of heavy rains we shouldn't have to worry too much about flooding right now.
