SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The city of Springfield has released the Phase II casino proposals it received from MGM and Penn National on January 3rd. Some of the information is redacted due to private or sensitive material.
Springfield mayor Domenic Sarno is expected to announce by January 25th if the city will negotiate a host community agreement with MGM, Penn National or both companies.
A city wide referendum will take place once a host agreement is signed and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission finds the company the city is negotiating with suitable. That suitability will be based on the companies Phase I applications handed that were delivered to the state gaming commission. Springfield, in its own process, has already determined that both companies were suitable in its eyes.
