HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Governor Deval Patrick announced more than $9 million in grants for life-sciences-related capital projects in Western Massachusetts.
Making the announcement at Holyoke Community College on Thursday, Patrick said that $3.8 million will be used to support the creation of a Center for Life Sciences on the campus.
Massachusetts Life Sciences Center CEO, Susan Windham- Bannister says the money will be put to good use.
"Our goal with these grants are really to make sure that young people all across Massachusetts are getting access to great training and state-of-the-art equipment so that they're ready to take jobs in these innovative sector economies like life sciences," Windham-Bannister said.
$4.54 million will also be spent within the city, with that money going to help expand the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center downtown.
Governor Patrick says these projects support the region's long-term economic growth.
