PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - On Thursday, Mohegan Sun revealed a new traffic plan.
The state Department of Transportation asked the developer to design a traffic mitigation option that does not involve a flyover. This is what they came up with: Adding 7 new lanes to the intersection of the Mass Pike exit ramp and Route 32.
Vice President of Development Paul Brody told 22News this plan will be just as effective as the flyover, and it's easier to maintain.
“A flyover is exposed to the weather, unlike the on-grade solution, and as we've seen our roads do deteriorate. Even our best built roads, it has to be rebuilt. Concrete has to be replaced,” said Brody.
The DOT will ultimately decide which traffic plan will be implemented. Palmer voters will head to the polls on November 5th to vote on Mohegan Sun's $1 billion proposal.
