PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - New information Tuesday on the host agreement negotiations between the Town of Palmer and Mohegan Sun .
Mohegan representatives say they hope to sign a host agreement by mid to end July, but before that, we will see some more details of Mohegan's traffic plans.
Many Palmer residents have been asking why it's taking Mohegan Sun so long to reveal specific details of their traffic plans.
Town Councilor Paul Burns told 22News, "The biggest issue in most people's mind is traffic, and I think you have to address it and make sure those issues are addressed and then we understand what the proposals are and how they are going to impact the community."
Check out the video above to hear our interview Development Coordinator Paul Brody about Mohegan Sun revealing their traffic plans.
Mohegan's front office in Main Street in Palmer was closed Tuesday evening, but 22News talked to Development Coordinator Paul Brody on the phone. We found out that they've been waiting to release the details of their traffic plans because the state Department of Transportation is still reviewing the three options they proposed.
Brody said, "It's not just the high interchange. It's all the intersections near the proposed casino site, some of which will need substantial expansion. It's without a doubt the most complex element of the infrastructure."
Some people are not too worried about traffic issues though.
Roxann Hebert of Palmer said, "We have traffic problems when we have our three flea markets that come through the Brimfield area. All it takes is patience."
Others said they will review the traffic plans carefully once the details are released Wednesday.
When the host agreement is signed, we'll find out exactly how much Mohegan will spend on traffic improvements and other police and fire expenses.
We'll also know how much annual payments Palmer will receive if Mohegan wins the gambling license.
