MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) - Construction of the new Town Hall began today. The twister had damaged the old town hall beyond repair. Each person in this Eastern Hampden county town of 8,500 had been touched in someway by the ferocious force of nature more than two years ago.
“We're recovering from the Tornado, which was devastating for everybody in town, not just the people who were directly affected by it, but the whole town was affected,” Emmaladd Shepherd, of Monson, told 22News.
The new Town Hall will also be home to the Monson Police Department. Chief Steven Kozlowski told 22News, this will be the department's first permanent home of its own, designed as a police station.
“We're very excited moving from an old building is a proper time for it, the electrical system couldn't event support the technology,” Monson Police Chief Kozlowski told 22News.
There was still more reason for celebration in the town of Monson. The new steeple was placed atop the tornado damaged First Congregational Church.

Pastor Bob Marrone told 22News the Church is an important part of the town. Two important points of recovery for this Western Massachusetts community that suffered so much during that dreaded Tornado. As one resident observed, it's nice to see people in Monson smiling again.
