MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) - Some communities impacted by the June first tornado have rebuilt slower than others.
Almost 2 years later, first church of Monson is finally getting something back that they've been missing since it was damaged by the tornado.
The new bell arrived two weeks ago and it is part of the major repairs needed to the first church of Monson.
The tornado damaged the ceiling inside the church and knocked down the steeple and bell, destroying them both.
Delays in construction means that the bell won't be up in the steeple until likely the end of June, but it's already turning heads in town.
"People saw it driving through town and we had folks stopping by here and once it was off the truck we were able to ring it. And it's quite an impressive thing," Pastor Robert Marrone told 22News.
Marrone expects the steeple to arrive on 14 flat bed trucks within a few weeks. Right now the foundation is in the process of being poured.
After that the bell can go up by the end of June.
The first congregational church of Monson won't be completely done with repairs until cracks inside on the ceiling can be repaired.
