AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Agawam police have revealed the name of the officer whose gun went off inside an apartment building Saturday morning; causing a woman to be shot.
Detective Lieutenant Richard Light told 22News that Officer Danielle Petrangelo and Officer Thomas Forgues have been put on administrative leave following the incident.
According to Light, just before 4:30 that morning, Petrangelo and Forgues were called to a breaking-and-entering and possible domestic dispute at the Elizabeth Manor Apartments on Maple Street. The officers could hear yelling and glass breaking inside one of the apartments. When the officers got inside, Petrangelo's gun went off- the bullet hitting a woman inside the apartment. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance and is expected to recover, further details about the woman's injuries are not being released.
State troopers assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney's Office have been investigating the incident, along with members of the State Police Ballistics unit and the Agawam police.
Petrangelo is an 11-year veteran of the department, while Forgues has been in the Agawam police for six years. Both officers are signed to the 12:00 A.M.-8:00 A.M. shift.
The victim's name will not be released, Light said.
