SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A 60 year old Springfield man died after he was hit by a pickup truck on Plainfield Street in Springfield's North End Tuesday night.
Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Clapprood told 22News, "The pedestrian suffered very serious injuries, and was taken to Baystate Medical Center."
In a subsequent conversation with 22News, Captain Clapprood confirmed that the victim had died.
Captain Clapprood said the victim was not far from where he lived when he was struck, and that police were having difficulty locating family members for formal notification.
Clapprood said the victim was hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck in front of 33 Plainfield Street shortly before 8:00PM Tuesday.
Police reopened the section of Plainfield Street they had blocked off while the Accident Reconstruction Team completed their investigation.
Captain Clapprrood said the pickup truck driver was also a Springfield resident in his sixties. So far, no citations have been issued.
