WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield police are on the lookout for two men who they say have been stealing expensive air conditioning coils.
Captain Michael McCabe told 22News that the thieves were captured by surveillance cameras outside Mestek on North Elm Street both on August 2 and 5. He says that they’re believed to be behind two more thefts on North Road on August 8 and 18.
The condenser coils, which were stolen from industrial air conditioning units, are worth about $500-600, but their value goes down dramatically after they are removed from an a/c unit.

The thieves have been traveling in a white van.
Nancy Lenza of Westfield told 22News, “Yeah, I wasn't surprised. A friend of mine has a neighbor who went on vacation. They came home, turned on the air, and there was no air conditioning. They went outside and all the coils were stripped out of it.”
“I think it's absolutely ridiculous, petty theft is. We had problems with people breaking into houses and living up there now, I keep my door locked, but to have them do it to a company? I hope they catch whoever is doing it,” said Betsy Gemme, who used to teach CPR classes at Mestek.
