HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Polish pride was flying high in Holyoke on Tuesday.
Mayor Alex Morse joined representatives and citizens of the Polish community outside City Hall. The Polish flag was raised in honor of National Polish American Heritage Month.
Joseph Kos, President of the Polish American Congress, told 22News that though times have changed, the Polish community has deep roots in Holyoke.
"There is a strong Polish American community here in Holyoke. The center of the Polish community was, of course, Mater Dolorosa Church . Our church has been closed, we are still trying to keep the Polish American community together," he said.
Kos told 22News that the church filed a petition with Rome to re-open the building.
