CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Wisniowski Park wading pool in Chicopee is closed for the summer, after vandals sprayed graffiti on the entrance sign and threw broken glass in the pool.
Acting Parks and Recreation Superintendent Rich Maciolek told 22News that they discovered glass Thursday morning, but were able to clean it up. Then they discovered much more glass on Friday.

Maciolek said that after speaking with city leaders, they came to the conclusion that they would have to drain the pool completely to make it safe for children.
The downtown pool takes 25,000 gallons of water, and with just a few weeks of summer left, they have decided to close it down for the season instead.
"Unfortunately the kids of that area suffer for just a few bad apples," Maciolek said. "We're diligently trying to get more surveillance in that area, as well as other problem areas in the city of Chicopee to make this a safe environment for children in the community of Chicopee."
Maciolek and Chicopee's police chief say that there are no suspects at this time.
