SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A large display of fireworks dazzled the crowds Thursday night in Springfield for the Fourth of July.
Thousands of people brought their lawn chairs and American spirit to River Front Park in Springfield where preparations are well underway.
It's a day they look forward to every year. The Spirit of Springfield, this year, is putting on their 28th Annual Star Spangled Springfield Celebration.
The fireworks themselves started at 9:30 Thursday night; they're launched off the Memorial Bridge, which was closed to traffic.
The festivities began at 6:30 Thursday night, with entertainment by the Dan Kane Singers and the Commodores.
The hosts of Mass Appeal, Seth Stutman and Ashley Kohl were the emcees.
State Police closed off exit 7 on I-91 as well as some streets surrounding the Memorial Bridge.
The event is free, but no seating was provided other than the chairs you bring for yourself.
