STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) - Boston Red Sox announcer and western Massachusetts native Carleton "Carl" Beane was killed in a car crash in Sturbridge Wednesday afternoon.
According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr., around 12:30 P.M. the Fenway Park PA announcer's 2004 Suzuki crossed the double solid lines on Holland Road, and then hit a tree and a wall at 233 Holland Road.
Golfers at nearby Hemlock Ridge Golf Club called the police. Beane, who was the only person inside the car, was brought to Harrington Hospital in Southbridge , where he died.
Beginning his broadcasting career in 1972, the 59 year-old Beane had been the Fenway PA announcer since 2003. He was born and raised in Agawam, and was a 1971 graduate of Agawam High School.
Beane had been a resident of the eastern Hampden County town of Holland prior to his death.
