WARE, Mass. (WWLP) - "I don't know it's like a big mystery right now."
And a big mystery was how it was since 8 a.m. on Sunday for residents in Ware.
It was at that time that they received a reverse 911 call from police warning them about a hazardous materials situation.
David Robinson says, "It said from the Ware police department it said that there was a hazmat down near the high school and they were closing off the roads near the high school and the middle school and a couple streets. "
Residents were told to stay inside but without a reason why.
Then the hazmat teams rolled into town.
The staging area was filled with firefighters from surrounding towns, the Red Cross, environmental protection.
Concerned and curious people stood by wondering what exactly was going on.
With the lack of information, rumors swirled.
All anyone wanted was an indication of what was going on and were they safe?
Donna Cullen says, "It would make me feel better if we knew what was going on, especially if it was a bomb or something. Then we could evacuate the area but they're not doing that so who knows what it is."
But residents didn't get the answer until some 9 hours after they got the call.
