SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield City Council President James Ferrera has announced plans to form a school safety committee.
The news comes one week after the drowning of a Kiley Middle School student during class. The District Attorney's office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the boy's death.
Superintendent Daniel Warwick says they have consulted with state officials over whether proper swimming guidelines were being followed at the school. He said the state found that the school was operating within the guidelines.
