HOLYOKE, Mass (WWLP) - Police in Holyoke have released the names of the two men who were killed, less than 100 feet from a children's playground.
The men are identified as 25 year old Richard Alequin-Hernandez of Chicopee and 20 year old Jose Santiago of Holyoke.
At around 2 o'clock this morning, gunfire shattered the early morning silence. Neighbors in the area of Chestnut Park woke up to find the men's bodies.
Lt. Jim Albert told 22News they followed a trail of evidence from the far corner of the park to an alleyway that connects to Elm Street.
Neighbors told 22News they're frightened by all the violence.
"Whole bunch of blood and bullets all around its horrible its a kids place a lot of kids come here to play," said Jimmy Oliver of Holyoke.
"What kid is going to want to come here now after there was two dead bodies just laying there this morning. You know parents talk, people hear, and it’s just not safe," said Greggory Los of Holyoke.
Holyoke Police are continuing to investigate Saturday night with the help of the state police and the district attorney's office.
