SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - Another man has died after a shooting in Springfield for the second weekend in a row.
Sgt. John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department told 22News the man has been identified as 22-year-old John Alexander of Grover Street.
Sgt. Delaney said Alexander died after being shot in the head while sitting in his car on Westminster Street.
Alexander was taken to Baystate Medical Center, and later died.
This is the second weekend that there’s been a deadly overnight shooting in Springfield.
One man that lives on Westminster Street told 22News it’s a tragedy every time something like this happens in the community.
"I work in Holyoke Public Schools, and I'm always telling my students that violence is not the answer. And this kind of exemplifies that, because I don't know any reason why someone would have to try and take someone else’s life," said Justin Cotton.
Last Saturday there were two separate deadly shootings not far away on Magazine Street and Walnut Street, making Springfield’s murder count at 15 for this year.
If you have any information in regards to this murder you're asked to call the Springfield Police Detective Bureau at 413-787-6355 or simply "Text-a-Tip".
