SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two people are dead after two separate shootings in Springfield on the same day. 22News spoke with one of the victim's family members.
More than 50 people gathered Monday night to remember Brandon Daniels of Springfield, a father of 3 children.
Brandon Daniels was killed on his birthday, September 21st, and on Walnut Street his family and friends have placed candles, flowers and balloons in his memory.
Kenneth Davis, Daniels’ Uncle, told 22News, “Everybody loved him. He had a beautiful smile, and he loved everybody. Always a loving person. Always talked to his uncle. Any time he needed advice, he would come to me.”
Daniels’ niece Antasia Rogers said, “He was an outgoing person. He loved to make people smile. He loved his children. He loved my grandma, his mom. He just loved being around his family. He loves his family.
On the same day, 20 hours before Daniels was shot to death, Adriana Bonet was shot and killed less than a mile away, on Magazine Street. A memorial has been set up there as well.
Daniels' family told 22News this is a wake-up call to stop gun violence in the city.
Dianne McCoy, Daniels’ stepmother, said, “Now's not the time to stand around and grieve. Now's the time to see that there's a change. There needs to be a change on the streets. It's time to stop killing each other.”
Bonet and Daniels are Springfield 13th and 14th homicide victims this year. There were 12 homicides in the city last year, and the year before that, in 2011, 19 homicides.
